Extras Meet George Clooney On "Ides" Set

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - George Clooney had no trouble getting "extras" to show up on the set of his movie, "The Ides of March," being shot in Ann Arbor this week.

Angela Smith, who was cast as an extra, tells WWJ people who show up with "stars in their eyes"  are often disappointed.

"I talked with a couple of friends and people that I know who have been extras before, and they're like sometimes you don't even see or meet, and you don't even run into the stars. Being that he was also directing, we knew we had a better chance. That, you know, he was going to have to be on set all of the time," Smith said.

Smith that was not the case with Clooney, who visited with her group.

"He came out and introduced himself and addressed us and started cracking some jokes and just making some conversation, so, it was really a thrill," she said.

Smith said she had to pass on a chance to come back again Wednesday as a paid extra, but said the whole thing was a great experience.

"This was my first time ever being an extra. I've always sort of wondered what things were like on a set. I mean, watching a movie you kinda wonder what really goes into it," she said.

The film, about a candidate running in the U.S. presidential primaries, also features Ryan Gosling, Marisa Tomei, Paul Giamatti and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
