Police: Witness Helped Catch Men Who Dumped Body

PORT HURON (WWJ) - Two men were arrested, Thursday, in connection with the death of a man whose body was dumped in Port Huron Township.

St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon said a 37-year-old Port Huron man was arrested and later released, while a 57 year old Port Huron man was arrested and is being held in the St. Clair County Detention Center.  Police say a witness helped them to identify the men.

"I have to commend the incredible police work done by the Detective Bureau, the Task Force and the MCU," said Sheriff Donnellon.

"Everyone involved worked as a unit, did a lot of leg work and we were able to apprehend suspects in a very short period of time.  To go from having a victim found alongside a road to having suspects in custody in the matter of about eight hours is fantastic," he said.

I would also like to praise the citizen who came forward with the information regarding the body and a possible vehicle description.  Without her timely information, the suspects may have escaped," Donnellon said.

An autopsy was performed Thursday morning by Medical Examiner Dr. Daniel Spitz.  No signs of trauma were found on the body.  The Medical Examiner's Office is waiting for toxicology results to issue a cause and manner of death.

The victim was identified from fingerprint records as 30-year-old Orville McNew, who recently moved to Port Huron from the Flint area.

Sheriff's officials are now working with the Prosecutor's Office to determine charges in this case.
