Romulus Police Chief Steps Down

ROMULUS (WWJ) - Romulus Police Chief Michael St. Andre thinks he is the focus of an investigation that has drawn the attention of the state and the feds. Now the chief will go on administrative leave until the probe is complete.

Romulus Police began an investigation nearly three years ago on word their narcotics unit was paying drug informants improperly, and even though they found no wrongdoing they went to state police.

Since then, St. Andre's home, his wife's business, along with the police station were the subject of warranted searches by state police investigators. While, investigators have not say what they're looking for in the raids, sources say the probe goes back at least two years.
St. Andre and Romulus mayor Alan Lambert are upset about how the searches were handled. St. Andre called it "overkill."
