WWJ Hosts Special Event On MI's Economic Future
DETROIT (WWJ) - It's breakfast and business, as WWJ Newsradio 950 partners with the University Research Corridor (URC), for a panel discussion on the state's economic future.
The interactive panel discussion will take place on Monday, March 21 at the Sheraton Detroit Novi Hotel, Ballroom B (21111 Haggerty Road).
Networking, registration and a continental breakfast begin at 7:15 a.m., with the panel discussion from 8:30 to 10 a.m.
The discussion, moderated by WWJ Technology Editor Matt Roush, features University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman, Michigan Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Michael A. Finney, Wayne State University President Allan Gilmour and Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon.
"What's great about bringing these four individuals together is really this intersection between the research Universities in Michigan and the business community who play a critical role in the reinvention of the state's economy," explained Jeff Mason, Executive Director of the URC.
The discussion will cover what is different and unique about university research, how each university approaches industry-sponsored research and what we can learn from the successful companies that have developed out of university research.
Discussion will also focus on where the jobs are in the hottest sectors of the economy and how startups and established businesses alike can use the three universities' one-stop-shop business engagement centers.
The panel may even touch on Governor Rick Snyder's effort to reinvent the Michigan economy. His plan is to help existing businesses grow, foster entrepreneurship and attract new business investments to the state.
