Fire Totals Plastics Recycling Plant
DETROIT (WWJ) - Black billowing smoke could be seen for miles away at a plastics recycling facility fire on Gratiot just south of Connor on Detroit's east side Saturday.
It took firefighters several hours to battle the fire at the recycling plant.
WWJ's Stephanie Davis was there and spoke with Fire Chief Patrick O'Brien: "Recycling plastics plant... it's a total loss," says O'Brien.
Using three hydrants, pumping 1500 gallons a minute per hydrant, firefighters worked to contain the fire with engulfed the building, deemed to be a total loss.
No injuries and no word on the cause of the fire. An investigation is expected into the cause of a massive fire.
