Detroit Red Wings Notes And Quotes

--Daniel Sedin blasted a pass from his brother, Henrik, into the open side of the net on the winning goal as Jimmy Howard was scrambling to get back into position and had lost his stick. Howard felt he was interfered with on the play, saying Ryan Kesler drove his head into the ice. Howard lamented a lack of goalie interference calls on Detroit's opponents. The Wings have had several would-be goals negated this season because of goalie interference or incidental contact with the netminder, usually called against Tomas Holmstrom.

--The Wings brought in 20-year-old goalie Troy Passingham with the intent of signing him to a 24-hour amateur tryout contract and dressing him as Jimmy Howard's backup Wednesday. Passingham played in the OHL this season for Windsor and Sarnia as an over-age junior. His NHL dream fizzled, however, when Chris Osgood was placed on long-term injured reserve, creating enough salary-cap space to recall Joey MacDonald from Grand Rapids.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"Overall, we played the way we wanted to, except the second period, they were better than us. That will happen. You will play some good teams, and you will lose some close games, too. This is a little bit of playoff-type hockey. Small things are going to decide it." -- Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg, after Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Canucks.
