–Wings goaltender Chris Osgood will be back on the ice Tuesday or Wednesday and hopes to get in seven or eight practices before he’s eligible to come off long-term injured reserve on April 8. He is hoping to play in one of the final two games of the regular season against Chicago. If not, he wants to make sure he is prepared to back-up Jimmy Howard in the postseason. Osgood, 38, won’t decide on his future until after the playoffs. He is trying not to think about it and focus instead on his recovery.
–Coach Mike Babcock said the Wings need to be better around the opposition’s net, showing more grit and determination. He feels his team is on the outside too much and not crashing the net enough, making it harder on the opposing goalies by getting rebounds and traffic.
QUOTE TO NOTE
“It’s tough coming in when your No. 1 gets hurt like that. But we got to take the positives out of it and just got to keep coming in and doing what I’m doing, give the team an opportunity to win every night. We didn’t give them a whole lot in the third. I had one good save off a faceoff that kind of got me into the game. It’s tough, but we played pretty well tonight.” — Wings goaltender Joey MacDonald.
