Detroit's Todd Bertuzzi Ejected, Won't Face Ban

Detroit Red Wings forward Todd Bertuzzi was tossed five minutes into Monday's game for a high-speed elbow delivered to the head of Chicago Blackhawks forward Ryan Johnson.

Bertuzzi was given a five-minute elbowing major and a game misconduct, but that appears all he'll get. The Detroit Free Press reported Tuesday that the league will take no futher action.

"I talked to the league – no suspension for Bert," Wings general manager Ken Holland told the newspaper.

Even though he's best known for his sucker punch of Steve Moore seven years ago, Bertuzzi was not considered a repeat offender under league rules. Also factor in that Johnson was playing the puck at the time of the collision and remained in the game, it wasn't a guarantee that Bertuzzi would get the usual two-game ban under Rule 48 that bans targeted headshots.
