–RW Todd Bertuzzi’s hit to the head against Chicago’s Ryan Johnson won’t prompt a fine or suspension, according to multiple media reports. Bertuzzi received a five-minute penalty for elbowing and was ejected from the game. Johnson, however, finished the game and said he didn’t think it was a malicious play. He said Bertuzzi apologized to him.
–Goaltender Thomas McCollum, Detroit’s top pick in the 2008 entry draft, was recalled from Toledo (ECHL) to back up Joey MacDonald on Monday. McCollum had a rough start to his second pro season, going 6-11-2 with a 3.18 goals-against average and .881 save percentage with Grand Rapids (AHL) before being assigned to Toledo. He has fared better for Toledo, going 11-9-2 with a 2.76 GAA and .909 save percentage. He needs at least one and maybe two years of seasoning in the minor before making it to the NHL.
