'Gown Town' Provides Free Prom Dresses For Less Fortunate

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - High school girls shouldn't have to worry about missing their prom because they can't afford a dress. In an effort to make sure every girl gets to enjoy their special night, 98.7 AMP Radio and Douglas J Aveda Institute teamed up to provide gently used homecoming, prom and bridesmaid dresses at no cost for less privileged girls.

Over the last three weeks, dresses were collected at Douglas J Aveda Institute in Royal Oak and Ann Arbor, as well as at four Emagine Theatre locations. All together, more than 225 dresses were donated.

Huntington Cleaners in Berkley has cleaned all the dresses, and now it's time for the actual Gown Town event.

Girls who can't afford to buy a dress can join 98.7 AMP Radio on Sunday, April 3rd from noon until 4:00 pm at Douglas J Aveda Institute Royal Oak for Gown Town. The girls will have the chance to pick up a gently used, cleaned prom dress for free. And yes, they get to keep it too!

Dresses are available on a first come, first serve basis. While supplies last.

Douglas J Aveda Institute is located at 409 South Center Street in Royal Oak. (click for map)
