Man Charged With Shooting Cab Driver

A Detroit man who was locked in the back of a cab after allegedly shooting the taxi driver has been charged with attempted murder.

41-year old Terrance Banks was arraigned Saturday afternoon on charges of assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, armed robbery and habitual offender- 4th offense.  He faces life in prison if convicted.

Detroit Police arrested Banks Wednesday.  Investigators say the victim picked up Banks in the 4000 block of Stockton.  As the driver was behind the wheel, Banks allegedly started firing and demanded money. 

The driver spotted police and notified officers near Harper and Gratiot.  Police say as officers stopped to investigate, the victim was crying and yelling that he had been shot.  The suspect, identified as Banks, was in the back seat.  As he got out, a high power rifle fell out of the vehicle.  Officers arrested the suspect.

The 44-year old victim is in temporary serious condition. 

Banks is being held on a $200,000 cash bond.  He'll be back in court April 12th.
