DETROIT (WWJ) -Looking for something new to do this weekend? Well you don’t have to look any further. Whether you’d like to check out a new military museum on the grounds of Selfridge or you are in the mood to check out healthy living ideas or maybe you’ve been thinking about bringing a new pet into your home, check out some of the many events going on in Metro Detroit this weekend.
Michigan Humane Society Pet Adoption Event – Saturday
Never on an impulse, but if you’ve been looking for a new four-legged family member this could be the weekend event for you. The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) will hold two adoption events at PetSmart locations in Dearborn and Rochester Hills this weekend, featuring MHS’ adoptable puppies, dogs, rabbits and cats.

Military Museum Opening at Selfridge Air National Guard Base – Saturday
Visitors to the museum will see almost $5,000,000 worth of displays, including a full-scale historically accurate replica of a World War 1 fighter plane, the SPAD XIII, an interactive cutaway and motorized WWII aircraft engine, a soon-to-be-interactive Air Traffic Control radar display, an extensive display of original aviation art, Korean War-era ‘Jeep’, and three aircraft cockpit trainers, a modern F-16 “Fighting Falcon”, and a WWII LINK trainer that guests can actually sit inside. The museum also features a wide variety of military memorabilia including weapons, aircraft engines, military uniforms, military aircraft models, and photographs spanning a more than 93-year history of the base. The Selfridge Military Air Museum is a private non-profit organization located on a military installation that is staffed entirely by volunteers. Admission is $4 per guest over age 12 and $3 for children between 4 and 12, a minimum donation of $25 for all by-appointment tours. Click on here for more.
Healthy Living Detroit Downtown Expo – Saturday
Healthy Living Detroit Downriver Expo – 10am-4pm. A wonderful collection of environmentally friendly, health wise and green services (50 vendors) to educate and entertain.
