DSO, Musicians Reach Tentative Agreement

DETROIT (WWJ) - As reported first on WWJ Newsradio 950, there's a tentative deal to end the months-long musicians' strike against the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

WWJ's City Beat Reporter Vicki Thomas broke the story. Vickie reports that after a six-month-long strike by the musicians, their spokesman Greg Bowens confirms that a tentative deal has been reached in the labor dispute. He told Vickie it's been a long time coming.

"Absolutely. After marathon bargaining sessions this weekend, it looks as if the musicians have reached a tentative agreement -- at least the negotiating committee has," Bowens said. "And so, while we're unable to release any details ... we can say that there is something that, uh, that the musicians will be voting on here shortly and may be back to work."

Bowens also told Vickie that both sides in the long-term dispute met for 17 hours on Saturday and reached the tentative agreement around 11:00 Sunday night.

A spokeswoman for the DSO refused to confirm or deny the tentative deal.
