Man Dies In Boating Accident; Child Critical

GREEN OAK TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A little girl is in critical condition after a weekend boating accident that killed her father.

Investigators say they still don't know what the 34-year-old man and a two-year-old girl were doing out in the middle of Whitmore Lake, south of Brighton, about 1:00 Sunday afternoon, but apparently they fell overboard.

The man was not wearing a life jacket. Fortunately, the little girl was, and due to some rescuers, she was able to be pulled from the chilly 41-degree water after being in the lake for about 20 minutes. She was taken to U of M Hospital, where she's being treated. The man's body was recovered later by divers.
