Muslim Community Asks Florida Pastor To Reconsider Trip To Dearborn

DEARBORN (WWJ) - Protests in Afghanistan continue for the fourth day over a Florida pastor who burned the Muslims' holy book, the Quran, last month.

Members of the local Muslim community are asking a Florida pastor who burned their holy book last month to reconsider his trip to Metro Detroit on April 22nd.

Imam Steve Elturk with the Council of Islamic Organizations of Michigan says he's worried about some people's reactions if pastor Terry Jones comes to Michigan.

Imam Steve Elturkwith the Council of Islamic Organizations of Michigan says the interfaith community is unhappy about Jones's visit as well.

"Naturally the interfaith community, it will affect them. It is a very sensitive issue, when he burns the Quran he literally burns Jesus and Moses and all the great profits that are mentioned in the Quran," says Elturk.

Jones plans to protest in front of the Islamic Center of American in Dearborn on April 22nd.
