Green Schools Group Launches Fundraiser For Oakland County

An environmental Web site that offers local school districts unique fundraising programs has launched a 60-day drive to raise money for Michigan Green Schools of Oakland County.

The fundraiser, sponsored by Green Fundraiser Store.com (http://www.greenfundraiserstore.com), will run from April 1 to May 31, and will coincide with Earth Day on April 22.

Green Fundraiser Store.com will use the promotion to support dozens of Oakland County schools that have been designated "green" for environmentally friendly, energy saving activities -- such as recycling paper -- by the state's Michigan Green Schools Program.

Green Fundraiser Store.com will donate $1 from each sale of a BioBag home composting kit to Michigan Green Schools of Oakland County. The kit includes a BioBag Max Air Compost Bucket and biodegradable, corn-based bucket liners, which allow the composting material to "breathe."

Green Fundraiser Store.com is selling the BioBag bucket at a discounted price of $7.99 (normally $8.99) and a box of 25 BioBag bucket liners at a discounted price of $4.99 (from $5.99) between April 1 and May 31.

"Each BioBag compost bucket looks like a plastic laundry basket with a lid on it," said Don Sherman, Green Fundraiser Store.com founder and president.  When used with its bucket liners, "the BioBag system allows anyone to turn food scraps from the kitchen such as fruit and vegetable peels, overripe goods or even coffee grounds and filters into great compost for the home garden," Sherman said.  Best of all, "there is no mess, no smell, no trouble," he said.

BioBag composting kits will be sold at the following upcoming events:
* April 22 -- Earth Day: Buckets will be sold at various locations to be announced in the Oxford/Orion area throughout the day.
* May 10 -- Orion Business Expo at Lake Orion High School; sponsored by the Orion Chamber of Commerce and Oxford Chamber of Commerce.
* May 13-15 -- Green Living Festival, Rochester, Mich.; sponsored by MI Green Team. www.MIGLF.com
* May 16 – Oakland County Green Summit; Oakland County Intermediate        School District facilities, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
* May 25 -- Michigan Green Schools Award Ceremonies; Oakland County Intermediate School District facilities.

One hundred seventy-one public and private schools in Oakland County were designated Michigan Green Schools during the 2009-10 school year. The Michigan Green Schools Program has set a goal of increasing the number of schools to more than 240 in Oakland County during the 2010-11 school year.

The Michigan Green Schools Program has been administered by the state's Capital and Building Projects & Facility Operations department since 2006, when the Michigan Green School designation became law.

Green Fundraiser Store.com is a member of MI Green Team (www.migreenteam.com), an organization that connects Michigan residents to local green and wellness products, services and programs.  MI Green Team leads one of the largest annual green events in the nation: MI Earth Day Fest, held since 2006 in Rochester.

Green Fundraiser Store.com also is affiliated with GreeningDetroit.com (http://www.greeningdetroit.com), which produces an online directory of green products and services and information designed to improve environmental responsibility in Metro Detroit.
