DSO Musicians Return To Work

(Detroit-WWJ) The sound of music returns to Orchestra Hall Thursday as musicians of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra rehearse for their first performances since going on strike last October 4.

Armed with a tentative agreement reached with orchestra management last weekend, musicians are preparing for their first concerts of the 2010-11 season Saturday and Sunday.

Prior to the ten a.m. rehearsal, DSO Music Director Leonard Slatkin will meet with reporters in his Orchestra Hall office.

The DSO offered free tickets to this weekend's concerts, and announced Wednesday no more tickets are available. However, in an attempt to bring patrons back, ticket prices will top out at 20 dollars for the remainder of the current season.

Orchestra members walked off the job last fall in a dispute over the size of pay reductions sought by management. A ratification vote on the tentative agreement has not yet been taken.
