DETROIT (WWJ) – The deadline to file income taxes is right around the corner, and there’s new help available in Detroit.
State Representative Maureen Stapleton is sponsoring free tax help Friday on the city’s eastside.
The free tax filing help is taking place at the Marcus Garvey Academy on Van Dyke, from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm.
“They can file their own federal and state taxes free of charge. We’ll have professionals there to help them. They can either call and sign up for an appointment or just show up,” Stapleton said.
“If they use this process and get their taxes done for free, they don’t have to continue to give money away to get money back. This is an empowering thing for people,” she continued.
The deadline to file taxes is April 15. Click here for directions to the event.
