Humane Society Investigates Case Of Dumped Dogs

SALEM TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Someone has been dumping dogs in Salem Township in the area of 5-mile and Salem Road.  The purebred Cocker Spaniels started turning up at the beginning of the month.

Seven dogs have been found so far.

Matt Shaecher, Director of Cruelty and Rescue with the Humane Society of Huron Valley, said the dogs, who were all alive but in poor condition, likely came from a puppy mill or a breeder.

"They're all in similar states of neglect, extremely matted hair. It looks like they were probably used for breeding, and maybe they're done breeding them, and they've just dumped them," Shaecher said.

Shaecher said some of the dogs will be available for adoption starting Friday.

"Then the other ones, who are unsocial or have medical conditions, will continue to be evaluated here until they can go up for adoption," he said.

The oldest dog is approximately 12 years old and the youngest is approximately six.
