Harper Woods Looks To Combine Police & Fire

HARPER WOODS (WWJ) - Harper Woods voters being asked May 3rd to approve a change to their city charter that would combine their police and fire departments into one department of public safety.

The firefighters' union does not believe City Hall's claim the merger would save up to $700,000 dollars a year.

Harper Woods now faces a $1.2 million dollar deficit. The city's police union says it will save jobs.

The mayor of Harper Woods says the proposal is necessary to maintain police and fire protection.
