Detroit Red Wings Notes An Quotes

--Henrik Zetterberg, who has not played since getting injured April 6, was on the ice for the first time since the injury when he participated in an optional skate Thursday.

The Wings are calling it a lower-body injury, but Zetterberg has been wearing a brace on his left knee, so a sprain is the suspected injury.

Both Zetterberg and coach Mike Babcock say Zetterberg is day-to-day, and Zetterberg was uncertain whether he would skate again Friday.

--Joey MacDonald will back-up Jimmy Howard in goal, at least for the start of the playoffs. Chris Osgood continues to practice hard in hopes of returning and believes he is getting close. Osgood had surgery for a sports hernia on Jan. 11. He hasn't appeared in a game since Jan. 4. Whether or not he plays again this season, Osgood said he hopes to return next year and is not planning to retire.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"The guys did a tremendous job in front of me, blocking shots, getting their sticks in lanes, being desperate. It was hard work, guys gave up their body (Wednesday). When guys are going down, getting in the way and deflecting shots, it's great for the goalie." -- Wings goalie Jimmy Howard.
