DETROIT (WWJ) – At least 10,000 people made their way down Woodward Avenue for a massive prayer walk for the city of Detroit.
The event included a round-trip trek along Woodward Avenue from Comerica Park to the Spirit of Detroit statue.
The event kicked off with short messages from local pastors and worship songs to an enthusiastic crowd in front of Detroit Tigers’ home. More than 500 area churches participated.
WWJ caught up with Dr. Sabrina Black of Detroit as she was walking :
“I was supposed to have been in Italy today, but I didn’t go to Italy because I didn’t want to miss this moment to be here to march with all these people, because we need to pray for our city,” says Black.
“Detroit needs to make a come back and people are writing stories about Detroit and I’m praying they write this story ’cause this is a story that needs to be told,” says Black.
Black feels the walk will create a spirit of oneness and service for the community.
It was organized by the Christian group EACH – Everyone A Chance to Hear.
