12-Year-Old Girl Suspected In Party Store Holdup

HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP (WWJ) – A 12-year old girl is facing charges after an attempted armed robbery of a party store in Highland Township.

A police statement says the girl was wearing a bandanna over her face when she walked into the Country Lake Market on North Milford Road just before 10 p.m. Friday.  She allegedly confronted one employee and demanded money.

There were three workers at the store and they were able to take the gun away from the girl and hold her until deputies arrived.

A loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun was recovered at the scene.  Investigators say the gun was stolen from her neighbor’s home.  The girl knew her neighbor had a gun and where it was kept.   She also had access to a key to the home.

There were no injuries.

The girl was interviewed by investigators and taken to Children’s Village pending charges.
