Detroit Red Wings Notes And Quotes

--LW Johan Franzen was bruised and bloodied, and needed several stitches to close cuts on his forehead and upper lip after hitting the boards face-first at 3:34 of the first period following a hit from Shane Doan. After passing a concussion test, Franzen returned midway through the second period. There was no penalty on the play, but Franzen said Doan should have been ejected. Doan said he didn't hit Franzen hard and that the big forward simply lost his balance. Wings coach Mike Babcock did not feel it was a malicious hit.

--Henrik Zetterberg skated briefly before practice on Thursday and Friday and then took the ice early Saturday morning. He grimaced in pain and skated gingerly off the ice after a few minutes, however. He continues to be listed as day-to-day. Booth Newspapers reported that Zetterberg has been ruled out for at least the first five games of the series due to a sprained left knee.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"I would have liked to have buried them, but we won two games at home. I thought our team played well. We took way too many penalties as the game went on. It's hard to overcome all those penalties. So we have to be better controlling our discipline." -- Wings coach Mike Babcock.
