Rio Captures #1 Spot At Weekend Box Office

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) – “Rio” captured the number 1 spot at the weekend box office, bringing in $40 million in its debut weekend.

Rio comes from the same hit-making team behind the popular ICE AGE series. It’s an adventurous comedy that focuses on Blu, a domesticated Macaw, who never learned to fly. Blu lives with his owner and best friend Linda in small town Minnesota.

When a scientist arrives from Rio and breaks the news that Blu is not the last of his kind, the two reluctantly leave their comfortable surroundings to meet Jewel, Blu’s female counterpart. What starts out as an attempt to keep the endangered species from becoming extinct turns into an adventure that no one saw coming.

Rio is wonderful, family-friendly entertainment for the entire family. It is playing at theaters across metro Detroit and nationwide.
