Taubman Gives Major Gift To U-M Medical Research
DETROIT (WWJ) - A major gift for the University of Michigan. Shopping Mall developer Alfred Taubman giving the school 56 million dollars to help fund medical research.
WWJ's Marie Osborne spoke with Taubman: "We're involved in high risk, high reward brain-nerve cell type diseases, such as; Parkinson's, ALS, and Alzheimer's - these are brain nerve related diseases," says Taubman.
The gift brings Taubman's total donations to the school to over 140 million dollars and makes him the University's largest single donor. Taubman says when he was a student at U-of-M he had to transfer to Lawrence Tech because he could not afford his tuition bill at UofM.
"We needed to add additional staff," says Taubman. The gift will focus on innovative medical science.
