Business Leader Thinks Pistons Move To Detroit A No-Brainer

DETROIT (WWJ) - Now that the Detroit Pistons have a new owner, will the team soon be looking for a new home?  Dan Gilbert, the owner of "Quicken Loans" and the Cleveland Cavaliers, thinks a move from the Palace to downtown Detroit is a no brainer, because the city is the centerpiece for entertainment.

"If they were out in some other type of rural environment, you would probably not have that kind of attendance because people want the entire experience that just sort of a proven thing of entertainment," says Gilbert.

The new owner of the Pistons, Tom Gores, has not tipped his hand as to whether he's considering a move from the Palace.

"I think that everybody understands and knows that arena's should be in an urban chorus, whether L. Brooks Patterson or anybody, I mean, it really doesn't matter ... an arena that just sits by itself, whether that was in the city of Detroit or a suburb, it just doesn't make a lot of sense," says Gilbert.

When new owner Tom Gores was asked about a possible move for the team, he avoided the issue.
