Business Leaders Optimistic On State's Economic Recovery

DETROIT (WWJ) - A survey of Michigan Business Leaders find them optimistic about the state's  long-term economic recovery.

Results of the quarterly survey of executives found that 67 percent think Michigan's economy will improve over the next 18 months, an improvement of 11 percent compared to the last quarter survey.

Kelly Chesney, Vice President of Marketing and Communications of Business Leaders for Michigan, said the survey results could mean good things are coming for Michiganders.

"It's good news. It's partially predicated on the fact that they see action being taken in the Governor's office and the legislature to correct some of our competitiveness, but it also is nice to see that optimism that Michigan can rebound," Chesney said.

According to Chesney, there is an indication that many of the top companies will soon be hiring.

"They are indicating that a number of them are going to hire. They feel comfortable and there's confidence there that the economy is improving and it's the right time to add some more jobs. It's very, very good for Michigan," Chesney said.

Business leaders believe the state's economy will continue to improve, but at a slower pace than the rest of the nation.
