Earth Day Recycling In Oakland County
(Pontiac-WWJ) It's Earth Day, 2011. The annual celebration of our planet was inaugurated in 1970 as a way to educate people about the environment and what we can do to preserve it.
In Oakland County, there will be a free computer and small electronics recycling event. Computers and many other electronic items, as well as small appliances like toasters, contain hazardous materials that cannot go into landfills. Recycling electronics recovers valuable materials and conserves natural resources.
The event runs from eight Friday morning until one in the afternoon at Oakland Schools, located at 2111 Pontiac Lake Road in Waterford Township.
Organizers say all personal information from computer hard drives and cell phones will be destroyed and no components will wind up in landfills.
