'Bandit' Sniffing Out Trouble At Metro Airport
DETROIT (WWJ) - They walk six to eight miles a day, patrolling the luggage, cargo, cars and trash cans of Detroit Metro Airport. Canine officer Charles Johnson says it's all in a day's work for the dogs that sniff out explosives at Detroit Metro Airport.
His German Shepherd "Bandit" is technically a senior now, but he's still making the grade.
"They have to go through a pretty rigid testing once a year through the federal government, we have to certify on planes, cargo, vehicles, warehouse searches, luggage searches and he has to pass that 98%, every year," says Johnson.
He's still scoring 100 %, but Johnson says when Bandit finally hangs up his badge; he'll keep him at home.
Johnson says he takes Bandit home at night. "He gets to lay in front of the fireplace or watch T.V. with me," says Johnson.
