DETROIT (WWJ) – Lawmakers in the state of Washington are considering a $100 annual fee for electric vehicles in an effort to offset declining gasoline tax revenues.
If approved, it would be the nation’s first electric car fee.
Supporters say the measure simply asks electric vehicle owners to pay their fair share to maintain the state’s public roadways.
They say it would raise hundreds of thousands of dollars a year at a time when Washington faces a $5 billion deficit.
