Flint's Diplomat Pharmacy Takes On National Walk @ Lunch Day
Wednesday, April 27 is National Walk @ Lunch Day and employees at Flint-based Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy are putting on their walking shoes.
National Walk @ Lunch Day, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield, is designed to encourage busy people in the workplace to set aside at least 15 minutes for a brisk walk during lunch.
"Our goal is to have the Diplomat Team walk 100 miles on Wednesday," said Becky Foerster, Wellness Coordinator for Diplomat Pharmacy. "Our new facility in Flint is over 350,000 square feet and that means we have some very long hallways. If each employee walks just 1 ½ laps around the interior of our building, we'll log 100 miles."
Diplomat employees will join tens of thousands of Americans across the country as they arrange their lunch breaks to take a walk for health.
"This type of event really plays well into our overall fitness in the workplace philosophy," said Foerster. "At Diplomat we've recently started a Wellness Program that includes a fitness room with weights and treadmills, Zumba classes, locker rooms and showers, and by the end of the year our goal is to have a wholesome foods café for our employees to grab nutritious meals on-the-go."
