Now That's Baseball!

Rob Sanford

I'm not sure the Tigers made a statement against the White Sox..since they couldn't get a hit off  Shirley Temple right now...but sweeping them is sweet anyway.  Winning all 3 games, with 2 of them being shut outs was simply incredible. Brad Penny and Max Scherzer were impressive not so much by limiting the hits, but more by maintaining control of their pitches. Walks does come back to haunt you, and Tiger pitching came off the west coast trip throwing strikes.

How about Brennan Boesch!  He's not trying to hit every out of the park and has been out of this world against left handed pitching. He has now reached base in 13 straight games hitting nearly .400 during tha t stretch while driving in 7 runs. He is also 3rd in the American League in the on-base percentage at almost .500. With Victor Martinez being out and Magglio Ordonez struggling with a bad ankle, his offense is more than just a little welcome.

In my last post, I talked about Austin Jackson needed to turn things around. This past week end he showed signs of doing that just..getting 4 hits in his last 2 games.

Ok...I'll offer my opinion whether Branden Inge committed an error during Saturday's bid by Brad Penny for a no-hitter. I went back and forth after watching the play many times...and I have to say it was a hit. For any ordinary third baseman it's a hit, but we've gotten used to Inge making that sort of play. But that's not fair. Inge should not be placed above other's in his position over what he can or cannot do when it comes to deciding on error or hit. It was the right call.

It's a case of home sweet home for the Tigers.  Since the start of the 2009 season their record at Comerica Park is 109-62..the second best record in the American League.

Down on the farm....2nd baseman Scott Sizemore is on fire at Toledo. He's currently 3rd in the International League in hitting with a .388 batting average. As for pitching, Andy Oliver has 22 strikeouts this season..good for 4th in the I.L. Former top pick Jacob Turner is 5th in the Eastern League with 20 strike outs at Erie
