City Council Looking At Nautical Mile Investment Plans

ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) - The St. Clair Shores City Council will hear about a new six million dollar project that will spruce up the 10 Mile and Jefferson area.

Officials are hoping it'll be the first phase of improvements to the city's famed Nautical Mile. Richard Widgren is overseeing the new plans: " The next phase involves marina owners (who) have thoughts about adding new public amenities, like retail places or better access to the waterfront by changing their road structure," says Widgren.

The six million dollar project would include a recreation center, a paddleball court and a swimming pool. Area residents have been hearing about new projects for a long time.

He says the city has to start somewhere. We came back by saying "let's start doing something now, with the resources that are available to us now," Widgren says.

He says he hopes to attract a hotel to the area in the near future.
