DETROIT (WWJ) – The Michigan Humane Society (MHS), the state’s oldest and largest animal welfare organization, will hold adoption events this weekend at its five PetSmart off-site adoption partner locations.

The adoption events, featuring dogs, cats, puppies, kittens and rabbits, are part of PetSmart’s nationwide weekend adoption event that aims to get thousands of homeless pets into loving homes.

“If you are looking for a furry friend, this is a great opportunity to meet a new member of the family,” Michael Robbins, vice president of marketing and communications for MHS said in a release. “Our off-site adoption program is a critical component of MHS’ goal of guaranteed placement for every adoptable animal that comes through our doors. These events save lives, and we’re happy to partner with PetSmart in this nationwide effort to give more animals a second chance at a loving home.”

The five PetSmart locations hosting MHS adoptable animals are:

  • Fri., April 29: Roseville PetSmart, 20530 E. 13 Mile Rd., 11 am – 2 pm
  • Fri., April 29: Rochester Hills PetSmart, 2724 S. Adams Rd., 4 pm – 7 pm
  • Sat., April 30: Dearborn PetSmart, 5650 Mercury Dr., 11 am – 3 pm
  • Sat., April 30: Chesterfield PetSmart, 51347 Gratiot Ave., 11 am – 3 pm
  • Sun., May 1: Taylor PetSmart, 23271 Eureka Rd., 11 am – 3 pm

Adoption fees for cats four months and older are $40 at each of the PetSmart locations, while kittens are $75. Adoption fees for dogs vary by age and breed. Rabbit adoptions are $20.

All pets have been spayed or neutered and received age-appropriate vaccinations. All cats have been provided with a free microchip.

Pet owners are encouraged to bring family members, including pets, to meet potential new members of the family.
