Pastor Jones Returns To Protest

DEARBORN (WWJ) - A week after a court order shuts down a Controversial Florida Pastor's protest at a Dearborn mosque he returns.

Florida Pastor Terry Jones, who was in town last week to protest what he said was the radical element in Islam, is expected to be protesting again.

This time, he'll be protesting outside of Dearborn's City Hall in support of free speech.

"I do want to continue to raise awareness of the radical element of Islam, not the moderate, not their rights. But at the same time, we are quite pleased that this has become a First Amendment issue because the First Amendment is what makes us who we are," Jones said.

For security reasons, police have created a barricade in front of City Hall that Jones will be behind during his protest. Barricades will also be in place on the other side of Michigan Avenue for protestors.

"Freedom of speech is only freedom of speech when it allows me to tell you or to say what you do not like. In other words, what is possibly, at that particular moment, not popular," Jones said.

The protest is scheduled for Friday, April 29 between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m., in front of Dearborn City Hall.

Jones says his rights were violated by last week's order in 19th District Court.  You may recall the Koran Burning pastor was jailed for a short time after refusing to pay a peace bond.
