'Project Healthy Living' Offers Free Health Services For Needy

DETROIT (WWJ) - Foreclosures, evictions and lay-offs -- all signs of the times. On Saturday, one local organization is offering a helping hand.

HOW Alliance, Helping our Own, has partnered with United Health Organization, for "Project Healthy Living."

Ifetayo Johnson, Director of United Health Organization, said they'll offer a variety of health services for those in need at Saturday's clinic.

"We have a group of dentists that are coming to do dental screenings. We'll have things for podiatry, for fitness evaluation, they can even get HIV testing. The list is extraordinary. It's an incredible group of people who have come together to make this happen," Johnson said.

"If you know of someone who's homeless, if you know of someone who is out there struggling, please have them come to Bert's Place. We're not calling them participants this time, we're calling them our honored guest. Because we know that there but for the grace of God maybe a pay check in a half go any of us," she continued.

The organizations are expecting to serve up to 500 people at the event. Project Healthy Living takes place Saturday at Bert's Marketplace inside the Eastern Market, between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.
