Mercy Education Project Hosts "Doorway To The Future"

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Mercy Education Project will hold its annual fundraiser "Doorway to the Future" dinner at the Compuware Building in Detroit on May 5th.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Marie Osborne tells us more about the organization dedicated to changing the lives of young women in Detroit.

"Eighty percent of the women who complete our program, get the GED, will go on to college, job placement or full employment," says Amy Amador-Executive Director of the Mercy Education Project.

The project works with women who want to get their GED's, young girls who need tutoring, or women who are transitioning out of prison.

Amador says there has been about a 44% increase in the number of women seeking help this year.

"Well, education is the key to having self-sufficiency," Amador says.
