WARREN (WWJ) – A 17-year-old was shot and killed Monday, while allegedly trying to break into a home in Warren.
Police say the homeowner – who was licensed to sell the marijuana – grabbed a shotgun and confronted the alleged knife-holding teen. Police say then the homeowner fired one shot.
Police tell WWJ the teenager was shot by the owner of the home on Los Angeles Street, in the area of 9 Mile and Ryan.
WWJ obtained the 911 recording in which you hear the homeowner say to the operator that he shot someone who was breaking into his home. The homeowner says that he could see the robber now in his backyard.

Police say when they arrived on the scene, the teen was lying wounded in the yard. He later died at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital.
Warren Police Commissioner Jerry Green was asked if the home owner was right in firing and killing an alleged robber in his home.
“Everyone has a different threshold when it comes to whether or not they think they are in harms way, you know, there are just a lot of variables that go into effect. His particular mind-set at the time, I don’t know. But he responded in this way and the prosecutor will have to take a look at it to decide whether or not it falls within the parameters of the law,” says Commissioner Green.
The homeowner was also hospitalized briefly after suffering from an apparent panic attack.
Police interviewed the homeowner Monday, and will continue the questioning Tuesday.
