Detroit Red Wings Roster Report 5-2-11
--RW Johan Franzen returned after missing one game and about a week's worth of practices with a sore left ankle. It appears the injury is still bothering him. He had no shots in 15:32 and was not much of a factor. He didn't drive to the net or make things hard on the San Jose defense.
--LW Henrik Zetterberg made his playoff debut, after missing three weeks with a sprained left knee. He worked well at times with Pavel Datsyuk, but Zetterberg was showing some ill effects from his injury and the layoff. He was not skating as well as he normally does,
--G Jimmy Howard turned in perhaps his best playoff performance in his two-year NHL career, making 44 saves to give his team a chance to win. He was particularly strong in the second period, when the Sharks had an 18-9 edge in shots and seemed to spend large chunks of time peppering the Detroit net. Howard's rebound control was good.
MEDICAL WATCH
--G Chris Osgood (surgery on Jan. 11 for a sports hernia) is on long-term injured reserve. He has been practicing hard and believes he is close to being ready to serve as the back-up.
