Do You Know Jack (Detroit)?

DETROIT (WWJ) - A new Detroit men's magazine is hitting newsstands and electronic devises, Monday.  "Jack Detroit" is the brain child of 22-year old Leah Moss, who told WWJ's Marie Osborne she got the idea after hours of soul searching about her future. Moss graduated from the honors college at Michigan State University in 2010.

"I filed out 152 applications for jobs coast to coast.  I got one freelance offer," said Moss.

After realizing she did not want to leave her home town, Moss came up with the idea of a men's magazine targeting any man with a curiosity and love of Detroit.

She was able to raise capital for the project through two platforms. A traditional loan came from Hebrew Free Loan and the second came from Kick Starter, an on line "crowd funding" sight which helps raise money for start up businesses.

The magazine will house regular features like " You don't know Jack " a column full of quick bursts of information or the "Jill of the Month" feature about a local woman who's work is worth noting.

The first printing of 15 thousand magazines will be distributed for free at local gyms, salons and restaurants. The first issue's cover story features stories about nine Detroit men who are making a difference in their work. When the 'proof' of the first magazine arrived at her office, Moss admitted "I hugged the UPS man!".

Subscriptions both paper and electronic are available.  Right now, Jack Detroit has a full time staff of one; Leah Moss and over 50 area free lance writers and photographers.
