Funeral Home Scammers Plead Guilty

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - Two funeral home owners have pleaded guilty to spending customers' money instead of putting it in escrow.

Owners of Buehler Funeral Home, 62-year-old Mark Buehler and his wife 47-year-old Lisa, each pleaded guilty to more than three dozen charges.

Prosecutors allege the Buehlers took funds for pre-paid funerals and used the money for personal purposes.

Roseville Police Detective Mark Pratt said the Eastpointe couple may have collected up to $500,000 from as many as 200 people.

Buehler Funeral Home has been in business in the community for several years, originally run by parents who left the business to their children.

The Buehler's, each charged with 37 counts, are expected to be sentenced in June.
