Police: Mom Drove Drunk With Kids In Car

TROY (WWJ) - Troy police say she had a blood-alcohol level more than double the legal limit -- and now a 33-year old Rochester Hills mom is facing serious charges.

The woman was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of drunk driving after she was caught swerving between lanes at Rochester Road and Alameda Boulevard with her two young kids in the car.

"They had no problem getting the grandmother to pick up the kids, so why would the mom be driving them at one-thirty in the morning anywhere? That would be my question, especially at a point-one-nine percent alcohol level," said Troy Police Lt. Robert Redmond.

Redmond said the two kids, an 8 and 10 year old, were released into the custody of their grandmother. He said they are waiting for blood test results before they can charge the mom.

Redmond said they don't get too many cases where a parent is driving drunk with kids in the car -- but he has seen it before.

"So far its been every now and then. But, it clearly is more than it used to be in years past. I think it's more of the one-parent-type families," he said.

The woman's name has not yet been released.
