"Missing in Michigan" Event Saturday

DETROIT (WWJ) - It's one of the most notorious "missing persons" cases in Michigan -- the disappearance of Paige Renkoski over 20-years ago. Renkoski disappeared from along I-96 in Fowlerville in 1990.

This Saturday, Renkoski mother's, Ardis Renkoski of Okemos, will join the "Missing in Michigan" event at Ford Field. Her goal is to push for more family members to submit DNA to help in the search for a missing loved one.

"A mission of mine is to try to get the word out on how important it is to put their DNA in the federal system," Renkoski said.

"I've been trying, again, for the last while, the last couple of years to have a proposal made that it be required. Not just, 'Oh, by the way, if you you have time give me your DNA'... but that it be required that the family of missing people put their DNA in," she said.

Renkoski's case was recently reopened by three cold-case detectives working for the Livingston County sheriff's department, who have identified six possible suspects.

WWJ spoke with Michigan State Police trooper Sarah Krebs who said DNA samples will be taken at the May 7th event.

"If families wanna come and bring their children, they can get them fingerprinted and get a little ID kit made for them," Krebs said.

They will also have live music, and McGruff the Crime Dog with make an appearance. The event  free and open to the public. It starts at 4 p.m.
