Matt Dery’s Daily Update 5-10-11

The Red Wings and Sharks will both be shorthanded tonight going into game 6 at the Joe.  As expected, Johan Franzen did not take part in this morning’s Wings skate at the Joe and is out with an injured ankle. Mike Babcock says Mike Modano will take the Mule’s place in the lineup and will be on a line with Pavel Datsyuk and Thomas Holmstrom.

As for San Jose forward Ryan Clowe is out with what the team is calling an upper body injury. Todd McLennan says Clowe did not make the trip to Detroit but it is not due to the hit he took from Niklas Kronwall in game 5.

TSN reports that the Western Conference Finals games 1 and 2 will be Sunday night and Tuesday night in Vancouver.

Tigers road show heads to Minneapolis for a mini two-game set with the Twins tonight. Tigers have won their last 3, and 6 of 8. Rick Porcello is on the mound against lefty Francisco Liriano, who in his last start threw a no-hitter against the White Sox.
