Pontiac Studio To Host Filming Of New Disney Movie

DETROIT (WWJ ) -  A local studio will host filming of the Disney movie, ``Oz,'' which it says will be the largest feature ever to shoot in Michigan.

Raleigh Michigan Studios said the Sam Raimi-directed film will be the first movie to occupy the just completed sound stages in Pontiac at the site of a former General Motors truck plant and office complex.

The filming of ``Oz'' expects to begin in August and will occupy the studio through the remainder of the year.

The announcement comes on the heels of news that ABC is canceling "Detroit 187"  and with the growing uncertainty surrounding the state's film industry.
