Former Red Wing, Steve Yzerman, Still Part Of NHL Finals

DETROIT (WWJ) – While the reality of the Red Wings’ season ending loss in Game 7 of the series against the San Jose Sharks sets in, we watch the Wings clear out lockers rather than prepare for the next round in the NHL Conference finals.

There is still one strong Detroit Red Wing connection to the finals; Steve Yzerman. While the Wings have been eliminated, all hockey attention can now be paid to the Eastern Conference finals.

The former Red Wing and current General Manager Steve Yzerman’s Tampa Bay Lightning invade the Garden to take on the Boston Bruins in their best of seven series.

This is the first time since 1992 that the Bruins are in the conference finals, while the Lightning are back for the first time since winning the Cup- in 2004.

The puck drops Saturday at 8 p.m. in Boston.

The Canucks are teeming with talent both offensive and defensive alike while the Predators are rising to the occasion in the postseason and making believers of them all over the league..Whoever gets the upper hand in that series gets to take on either Detroit or San Jose for the right to go to the Stanley Cup final. Its Nashvilles first time in the second round while Vancouver is looking to make the Western Conference final for the first time since 1994. Neither Roberto Luongo nor Pekka Rinne dazzled in the opening round and while both teams showed glimpses of solid offense Ive got a funny feeling this one plays out similarly to how the Canadiens-Bruins series did with tight checking defense and scoring at a minimum.
