Poll: Confidence In Obama Dropping In Parts Of Middle East

DETROIT (WWJ) - President Barack Obama will address the Muslim world in a speech at 11:30 this morning as a Pew Research poll this week shows that confidence in the President has dropped in many parts of the Middle East.

As the President tries to repair his standing with the entire Muslim world, Dawud Walid of the Council on American-Islamic Relations Michigan said Obama has a lot of work to do to repair his relations with Muslims in this country as well.

"We understand that there's still a large amount of Americans who think that he is a Muslim, but the way to deal with that issue is not to stay away from the American-Muslim community," Walid said.

Walid believes the killing of Osama Bin Ladin has not helped the President overseas.

"The reality is that al-Qaida's number one victim linked to the terrorists have been Muslim," Walid said. "So, Osama bin Laden was no friend of the Muslim world and I don't think that in the bigger scheme, or in the bigger picture, that the death of Osama bin Laden is a negative, nor is it a great plus, for President Obama within the Muslim world."

Walid said he would like to see the president broker peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
