Can't Anyone Hit????

Rob Sanford

I don't know about you, but I'm more than a little sick of seeing the Tigers leave runners in scoring position with less than 2 outs. I'm surprised by hair isn't falling out by clumps. As bad as it is for fans...how would you like to be Jim Leyland or Lloyd McClellan??  This is not a new development. From 2007 to present it's been the case with no light at the end of the tunnel. Perhaps this is just frustration on my part but I'm getting horse from yelling a stream of bad language at the TV screen. Not to mention scaring my wife's cats. Enough!

Would somebody please tell Brennan Boesch that it's not against the rules to take the first pitch. Instead of being patient , waiting for a pitch he can do something with..he nearly always swings at a pitchers first offering. That normally winds up being a pop-up or a ground ball to the second baseman.

While everyone is pointing fingers on who is to blame for the lack of run production...I'm not hearing anything about the mini-slump of Miguel Cabrera. At one point his batting average was at around .350, but over the past week to 10 days, it's dropped to the low .300's.  This might be part of the problem, but in his case you know it's strictly a temporary thing.

So much is made of Sparky Anderson's 40-game measuring stick of a team. But you might be better off circling June 1st on your calendar. The Wall Street Journal had an interesting article in Friday's edition.  According to the numbers, if your team isn't above .500 at the 50 game mark...you  might as well start planning for next season. Since 1996, just 9% of teams wound up winning 90 games if they were under the .500 mark on June 1st. Most experts say if you hope to get into the playoffs...at least 90 wins is necessary. Based on those facts....Oakland, Philadelphia, Cleveland, St Louis, Colorado, and Tampa Bay would be favorites to get into the post season. I would say the Tigers are on the bubble.
