Detroit Dragway Reunion Returns To Milan Dragway

MILAN (WWJ) - Bring the family out to Milan Dragway for the second annual Detroit Dragway Reunion on May 21.

Detroit Dragway, often refered to as "The Dirty D," operated from 1959 until 1998. The Dragway was home to many Motor City racers and thousands of spectators who were thrilled by the sights, sounds and smells of the drags.

The iconic Detroit Dragway, which was located at the intersection of Sibley and Dix, was one of Downriver's most famous attractions.

Although the track is long gone, you can still relive the memories on Saturday, May 21 at Milan Dragway. What better way to spend a weekend than remembering the good ol' days at the track?

There will be plenty of side-by-side action, featuring the Great Lakes Gassers, Nostalgia Funny Cars and the pavement pounding action of the Holbrook Racing Engines Saturday Shootout series.

Come and meet Jon Lunberg, the man whose familiar voice would remind us that "Sunday, Sunday, Sunday," was the day to go to Detroit Dragway for great drag racing action.

You can also meet the legends from different eras. Roger Linamood who drove the "Color Me Gone" Funny Car, six of the infamous Ramchargers, Dave Lyall, Don Morton and many more will be on hand for the celebration.

Plus, there will be a car show featuring a unique collection of cars from several local car clubs.

The "buzz" on the street is some of the fiercest competitors who used to race at Detroit Dragway are brewing up match races, indicating that it may be time to hash out some unfinished business.

Gates open at 9:00 am, time trials start at 10:00 am and eliminations are at 1:00 pm, with exhibition runs throughout the day.

Spectator tickets are $10 for adults, which include full access to the pits and car show. Kids 12 and under get in free. Parking is free.

If you have a car worth racing, you are in luck because you can enter your hot rod in the competition. Entry fee for the two Detroit Dragway Trophy Classes are $25. Entry fee for the Box and No Box classes are just $35.

So, bring your car, bring yourself, bring your family and relive all your favorite memories from the Detroit Dragway.

The Milan Dragway is located at 10860 Plank Road in Milan, 4 miles east off US-23, Exit 25 (Plank Rd).
